Luxury Lagoon 52 Catamaran

Sailing in Luxury

Sailing in the Mediterranean on luxury catamarans quickly became our favorite mode of travel.  We leisurely skim across the crystal clear Med piloted by an expert local skipper, from one gorgeous port to the next along the beautiful Croatian coast, in the comfort and serenity of a spacious yacht.  We stop at beautiful coves to enjoy the water, and each afternoon or evening dock for the night and enjoy a delicious, fresh Croatian dinner.

A Storybook Start in Dubrovnik

We begin and end in the captivating and unique Dubrovnik, with time to explore its Old Town, justifiably chosen as the backdrop for Game of Thrones.  When you arrive in Dubrovnik on May 24, you will be whisked away by private transport to our villa hotel, perched stunningly above the Adriatic within easy reach of Old Town.  Unwind from the trip and gather for our welcome dinner.  The next day, after a delicious breakfast, you will have until the afternoon to enjoy the hotel and explore Dubrovnik, until private transfer takes us the short distance to the marina where we will board our yacht and meet our skipper.  Initial provisions for breakfasts, lunches and snacks according to your preferences already will be on board.

Why Arrive In Dubrovnik A Day Before Sailing?

Two reasons.  First, arrival on May 24 decreases significantly the chance of a flight delay or cancellation causing you to miss the departure of the yacht on May 25 and, as a result, lose one or more sailing days and incur complicated and expensive transport to catch up.  Second, spending the afternoon and evening of May 24 and the morning and early afternoon of May 25 in Dubrovnik will allow you to explore this unique ancient city.  Walk the Old Town walls, find the hidden Buza bar outside the fortress walls, ride the cable car to the commanding view in the top image on this page, find the Games of Thrones filming spots, etc.

When Do We Return?

We will arrive back in Dubrovnik on May 31, have our last dinner in Old Town Dubrovnik, and spend the night aboard the yacht.  We will disembark on the morning of June 1, so you can book your return flight for that day.  Alternatively, you can either add one or more nights in Dubrovnik or travel elsewhere before returning to the U.S.  We will gladly help you with those arrangements if you wish.

What Is A Day During The Charter Like?

We spend each night in a marina or on anchor with transport to shore, allowing you to stroll around town.  Of course, you are welcome to stay on board until we sail.  Each day includes several hours at sea (sometimes under sail, sometimes under engine power depending on wind and how much distance we want to cover), usually with a stop for lunch at a scenic cove where those who want to swim can do so.  While at sea, take in the views, chat with your companions, sunbathe, read, spot dolphins, enjoy drinks and snacks, be regaled by your skipper’s stories, and experience the voyage as you wish – this is your journey.  The daily schedule can vary depending on when our skipper indicates we need to arrive at our next marina.  Often, there are opportunities ashore for hikes, excursions to local sights, exploring the town and ancient Croatian history, biking, winery tours, etc.  We will help arrange the opportunities that interest you most.  Our skipper knows the best restaurants, and we will dine on wonderful local cuisine.  If you prefer to have one or more of your dinners with just your companion instead of the entire group, we are happy to arrange that.  Dress throughout is casual.  For dinner, sundresses for women and nice shirts and linen shorts or pants for men would be perfectly suitable.

The Catamaran Accommodations

We sail on catamarans because they provide far more comfort and space than monohull sailboats.  We will be on board a 52-foot Lagoon catamaran, built recently.  The air-conditioned yacht has six cabins (plus separate quarters for the skipper).  Each private cabin has an en-suite bathroom with shower.  On our previous voyages, we were aboard smaller 39-foot and 40-foot Lagoon catamarans, and found them to be amply comfortable.  The much larger Lagoon 52 provides significantly more space and comfort both inside and out.  Still, please know that space is at a premium.  You will want to limit your baggage, and will not need multiple suitcases of clothes.  The catamaran has a main indoor salon with seating and a galley with a full-size refrigerator.  Outdoor space includes a rear covered seating area, a seating area at the helm on the flybridge, a sunpad on the helm level, and a large “trampoline” in the front with cushioned seating just aft of it that also is a wonderful place to spend time.  See the schematic and slide through the photographs below.  While the yacht does offer multiple living spaces, when on board you will be in relatively close quarters with your yacht-mates.  We conduct pre-booking meetings with each guest or couple to maximize a cohesive experience for all.
